Life Group L.A. is Undeserving

I could never vote for the Life Group L.A. The head of the organization is a woman, yet the group is not welcoming to women. They are not open to suggestions and new ideas. The whole outfit is a poorly-run shambles, and they are particularly unwelcoming to the recovery community.  Sad :(The group has even pressured its staff and members to vote and write supportive comments here!

Any of the other groups--fespecially Global Conversation Assistance-- are more deserving than is Life Group L.A.

Hello,

I am the web developer for The Life Group LA and I first wanted to commend Joomla Shack for their compassion and dedication to the non-profit community. In today’s economy, raising funds has become increasingly difficult. Kudos to Joomla Shack!!

I have been donating my time and energies to the Life Group LA ever since its inception back in 2005. I built their web site and create all of their print and electronic communications. It has been my privilege and honor serving this amazing organization.

The post form Brompton comes as a shock. I know the ED of the Life Group personally and she is completely dedicated to serving the HIV-AIDS community. Men, WOMEN, family or friends, everyone is welcome to attend their ground-breaking and life-changing seminar COMPLETELY FREE OF CHARGE. Anyone Infected or Affected by this insidious disease will benefit from attending the workshop. It is standard practice for an organization to call upon the supporters to help raise much needed funds and I personally built the email announcing Joomla Shacks competition and instructions on how to vote and I’m sorry that Brompton felt pressured to participate.

If you are wondering how The Life Group LA has impacted peoples lives from the services they provide, I suggest the you read some of their unsolicited comments from their online guestbook located at: http://thelifegroupla.org/vgbook/guestbook.php. One of my personal favorites:
Quote
"It's been 3 weeks since the workshop and I can not tell you how much I appreciate what I walked away with.

My life has changed in so many ways, my friends and family now want to go to the workshop. My outlook on life has changed from a stormy sky to a bright warn sunshine day.

Thank you to all the volunteers, you made me feel so welcome, you helped lift my fears, encouraged me to be proactive and gave me the resources to make it all come together.

Sunnie, if it were not for your persistence and passion and loving ways, I may not have even had the courage to leave my house Friday night.

One day, I will come back and train to be a volunteer too."

— JK

I’m sure that all 5 of the chosen charities are well deserving of Joomla Shack’s generosity and I encourage you to vote with your heart, I did!

Regards,
Mike K.

P.S.: I am currently in the process of converting The Life Group LA's web site to Joomla 1.5 and will let you know when it's launched!

life group la all the way.

i cant believe the post above. i met this group through the recovery community (i was in rehab) and they were very supportive and gave me so much. there are always women at the events i have gone to that they put on and they also include a 12 step meeting at all the poz seminars for us to go to if we want.  sounds like someone just had a bad day.

The LIFE Group does absolutely fantastic work and deserves your vote and gets mine.  They are selfless in their unending work for people living with HIV/AIDS and, unfortunately, in this day of 'living with AIDS' too many have forgotten that people with HIV/AIDS are suffering.  They haven't forgotten us and they haven't forgotten that we are here.  They work to make our lives just a little more bearable and just a little more normal and, I, for one am beyond grateful that there is someone who still 'gets it'.  Bravo LIFE Group!

This looks like a very interactive forum.  Looking forward to great info from here.  BTW, I think I'm going to go with Project Rwanda.

Guys,

So sorry, but voting ended just after the first of the year. (It's a holiday time contest.) Life Group LA did indeed win. See:
https://www.joomlashack.com/joomlashack/335-life-group-la-wins-2008-charity-contest

But certainly feel free to send contributions to any/all of our community-nominated charities!
