Most template tutorials give you a few pointers in where to place modules, or maybe how to set up a piece of content on the home page.

Ours is different.

Written by the popular Joomla tutorial author, Barrie North , its a huge 30 page guide entitled Creating a School Website with Joomla, part of the upcoming book, Joomla 1.5: A User's Guide.

You can download it now free right here (you must be logged in to download the PDF).

Joomlashack has decided to not create a 1.5 version of the Shackpack. However, you can get a similar hosted version from simplweb:
www.simplweb.com/schools

You can get a 1.5 version of the template from here:

I've only just downloaded the manual - looking forward to reading it.

fyi, I had to use IE7 to get it, Firefox 2, my preferred browser, wouldn't work whatever I tried  Sad

Good luck with the project - I'm looking forward to looking through the schools forum - and contributing of course!

You were obviously logged in to write your post, therefore if you scroll up to the first post by Barry, you will see the PDF file to download.

I can't promise anything, but I'll try to find time to do this. I think this would be a great exercise to keep/improve my Spanish.

¿Y Luis puedes corrigir mi grammatica?

I´ll retract that offer as the PDF has save as text, copy & paste disabled. Also the copyright is Prentice Hall , Attribution-Non Commercial-No Deriivatives.

So althougth this is an excellent text and it's nice to download, the community can't help out with translations.

How funny is this.  For years I've been force to manage the site of the department of the Uni I work for by way of a Unix shell.  I've cried blood  Cry requesting some sort of CMS.  They recently approved that the site can live on another server, and the admin for this server is OK with me running Joomla!.   Everything was falling in to place, and now this!!  BOOM!  I'm gonna go out and by a lottery ticket.

This is EXACTLY what schools need. This is similar to the idea here in PA called http://www.SchoolWires.com but that is based on ASP and IIS and cost $$$$$. Our school uses a CMS system called DFS and it cost $20,000.00/yr. We could really use Joomla to manage the school's site. Thanks for the e-book, I will be building a demo site for practice.

Its a sample chapter from my upcoming book, no-derivatives just means you have to ask first Smiley.

I am more than happy for people to translate the document, but I would ask that we have them available here as a central resource location for people....

This is great, and comes at a great time as I was getting ready to implement a Joomla site for a small christian school (currently at www.cbcnh.org/cca) and was in search of a good template for it.  Having the documentation and extra components is going to make this a LOT easier since I have only a little website experience and very little Joomla experience.

After just starting to read this chapter, I am surprised at the HUGE number of typo's.  Is someone collecting editing input?

Thanks all!
