Hello,
My school district is looking at using Joomla.  My question is that our school website has many sites built with links for educational purposes.  Can Joomla handle stand alone html content?
Thanks,
Deb

Hi Barry,

Thank you for answering.  Do you have any sample school sites that you know of that are Joomla users?  I am looking for a school district with three schools.  I am looking to create instruction rich website within the joomla template would that work?

Do you have any Joomla sites up that I could log into to see the interface?

Regards,
Deb

Hi,

I downloaded the education templates and was discouraged to learn that they don't work with Joomla 1.5. Is there a tutorial for migrating from 1.0 to 1.5? Also, does your Education Shack Pack include 1.5 support?

Thanks,

Wade

The tutorial is upgraded for 1.5 as a chapter from the upcoming Joomla 1.5 book. The template will be upgraded also...

Regarding 1.5 generally...

Quote
Joomlashack Products and Joomla 1.5
Solution We apologize that at this time we cannot guarantee the success of any of our products with Joomla 1.5, even with "Legacy Support" enabled, nor are we in a position to offer support for any of the products being used with 1.5 - with the exception of Weblogic, which was created to work with 1.5 natively.
Once a stable release of 1.5 is made available, we will make the necessary changes to many of our templates/extensions to allow them to run with 1.5 natively.

Hi Barry,

Just tried to download this file: Creating-school-website-with-Joomla.pdf but I keep getting an error suggesting that the file cannot be found. Is this still available? Is so I would like a copy...

My apologies in advance if you posted a new link somewhere, couldn't find it...

Hi Barrie,

Do you have any idea when Joomlashack will be supporting 1.5?  I don't want to get started with 1.0.x if 1.5 will be ready soon.  Also, when is your book coming out?  It's only available as a pre-order on Amazon.

Thanks,

Laura

We will update the Shack Pack for 1.5, I am committed to supporting schools! Bear in mind that there won't be much of an upgrade path however, it will be most appropriate for new sites.

This thread has the most up to date info on book release:

Hello,
We are trying to do all this on our own.  I have admin level rights, this is a big learning curve.  In looking at the shack pack sites for schools, I wondered how much they cost?
Thanks,

It looks like you can now buy my new book, Joomla! A User's Guide: Building a Successful Joomla! Powered Website as a PDF

It has a chapter that takes you through a school site on Joomla 1.5.

I am having some trouble with my site. It is www.uccspgm.org

When I goto the About Us - Section part of the menu, I click on either mission statement or program management. Both the Mission statement and Program Management Team portions come up on both pages. How can I prevent this from happening.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Again,
Not trying to import a page into the template trying to link it as you would a pdf, but have it be a straight html page.  To have a stand alone website outside the template as part of the site.
Thanks,

Hi Barrie,

Your PDF says that you have decided on using Repository in the Education Shackpack, but what part of the PDF deals with setting up and using Repository or DocMan?  I would like to set up some Word documents that the users could download, and if they have author permissions, could edit and upload. Can you give me some help or tell me where to look for a step-by-step procedure to do something like this?

Thanks,

Dale

Hello All,

Please don't use this thread to ask for help with the Education template, or the Shack Pack.

There are devoted threads for that purpose:

Post here for help with the Education template.

Post here for help with the Shack Pack.

Thanks for helping us keep a orderly forum. Smiley

peace,

Hello TJ,

Actually, I think this issue is part of the confusion.  I for one have had difficulty finding my way around all the different forums.    For example Joomla for Schools vs. Education vs. paid for shackpack for schools vs. free education template. I have to say you and Barry have been OUTSTANDING and understanding with us newbies Smiley.

All the best,

Hello DB,

Sorry for any confusion.

Sometimes in an attempt to make things clearer for people (ie, all of the separate threads to categorize posts) it's possible to make them more cloudy isn't it... Wink

Thanks for your patience.

HI, guys I think If you have been involved in developing a school website with Joomla, perhaps you would like to help review the chapter in development. It will only need a couple of hours of your time and you will of course get a plug in the book.

Joomlashack has decided to not create a 1.5 version of the Shackpack.

However, you can get a similar hosted version from simplweb:

www.simplweb.com/schools

You can get a 1.5 version of the template from here:
