This years's Joomlashack survey consists of a single question: What can Joomlashack do better in 2017?
You might be thinking,
This seems like a very simple thing to answer
Yes, you're right! There's just a single box and you can write whatever you want.
Joomla allows you to customize almost any feature through overrides.
Layout overrides are a type of override that enable you to customize small elements such as the article author or published date.
In this tutorial, I'll show you how to create a layout override for Joomla tags.
Just like search engines, Facebook scrapes metadata information from your Joomla site. This metadata includes the description, title and image, as we explained in a previous post.
You can control the metadata that Facebook scrapes from your page.
In this post, I'm going to show you how to control how your site shares metadata with Facebook. Let's start...
Did you know that the Joomla! project now offers official certification?
People are already becoming Joomla! certified. Exams were recently held at JoomlaDay Italy, JoomlaDay Poland, and the Joomla! World Conference in Vancouver.
We spoke with Luca Marzo from the Joomla! Certification Team and asked him about these questions:
Joomla 3.5.1 introduced a new feature that makes it easy to create hidden menu items in Joomla. You can create menu links that don't have to be displayed inside menu modules
One very common use case is to hide the "Home" menu item. Many sites, including Joomlashack, follow this approach.
We also use this technique to create links to special sales pages and landing pages. We want to use the menu link to set up the page, but we don't want the links to be easily visible. This technique is the perfect solution.

Very recently, the Joomla team confirmed that custom fields will be part of an upcoming Joomla release.
This is one of the most important new features since the launch of Joomla 3, and will transform the way that many Joomla sites are built.
We're already investigating fields to see how they can be integrated with our Joomla templates and extensions.
If you haven't done so already, read our guide to Joomla's fields. Now, here's a detailed overview all the new fields types.
In April 2016, the OSTraining team took over Joomlashack. This site was still running, but it needed an injection of fresh energy after 11 years.
So, we planned a 2016 roadmap to bring new life back to Joomlashack.
I'm delighted to say that almost all the items on the 2016 roadmap have now been completed:
Today we're delighted to officially launch OSCampus.
OSCampus is the best way to build an online training site with Joomla.
OSCampus is incredibly robust and is already used by 1,000's of people every week. OSCampus runs the video training on OSTraining, and its architecture is the basis forJoomlashack University and the official Joomla.org training site!
OSCampus allows you to publish online classes. You can use OSCampus to create classes with multiple lessons and quizzes. The lessons can consist of anything from videos or text, to presentations and PDFs. Your lessons can be YouTube or Vimeo Videos, Slideshare or Google presentations, simple text or complex code.
