A First Look at Joomla 4

A First Look at Joomla 4

Here at Joomlashack we've started to get questions about Joomla 4.

We've even had people asking us why we don't have training available for Joomla 4 yet!

So, it's time to give people an overview of the progress being made on Joomla 4. What's the current state of this new version? What features will be included? Will it be easy to update?

Let's dive in and answer those questions.

The Wright Framework Works with Joomla 4!

Hey, Wright (Almost) Works with Joomla 4!

Here at Joomlashack, we use the Wright Framework to build great Joomla templates.

Wright currently works perfectly with Joomla 3 websites.

However, we had no idea whether it would work on Joomla 4. After all, Joomla 4 isn't even in alpha yet. And future Joomla updates have always been complicated. Surely the move to Joomla 4 would be difficult?

We were wrong. Moving Wright to Joomla 4 was surprisingly easy.

The 4th Joomla Development Class is Here

How to Develop Joomla Components. Part 2

We are delighted to publish the 4th major class in our Joomla development series. These 4 classes now cover all the key areas of building Joomla extensions.

We've worked with Cory Webb, a Joomla developer since 2005, to create this series of 70 videos.

This 4th class is called "How to Develop Joomla Components. Part 2: the Frontend".

In these videos, you'll finish building the todo list component that was started in Part 1.

Join Joomlashack University for access to all these videos

Cory shows you how Joomla uses the MVC pattern for component development. You'll learn how to build Models, Views and Controllers in the recommended Joomla way. You'll also see how to create router files and language files, plus how to package your work for distribution.

What is the Best Joomla Page Builder?

What is the Best Joomla Page Builder?

At a recent Joomla event, a Joomlashack member asked me a really interesting question:

Do you recommend using a page builder to use with Joomlashack templates?

By "page builder", we were talking about extensions that allow you to design Joomla pages using a drag-and-drop interface.

I admitted that I hadn't used the page builders enough to give him a good answer. So, over the last couple of weeks, I downloaded and tested several Joomla page builders.

Here's an introduction to some of the most popular page builder options:

How We're Improving the Admin UI for JCal Pro

Improved Admin UI for JCal Pro

We released today JCal Pro 4.2.5, a new version of the best calendar component for Joomla.

Over the last few releases, we been improving the admin UI, so that JCal Pro looks more like the core Joomla UI.

In general, we think that extensions should look like Joomla, rather than have their own, completely unique design style. This makes it much easier for users, who don't have to learn a new interface.

In this post, we'll give you a quick summary of how the JCal Pro backend evolved during the last updates.
