I have to agree.  I think this is a wonderful initiative and one that should be replicated by other organizations.

Though I recognize the challenges in Rwanda, and in fact met Senator Romeo Dallaire, the UN peacekeeper who fought to prevent the genocide there (see the un-updated Joomla Site "www.HelpingYouthIsWhatWeDo.com"), I support localized charities here in Canada.

This initiative has given me the opportunity to indirectly support a global organization that I had never heard of.

It sounds like GCA follows the principle, "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day.  Teach a man to fish, he'll eat for life."  Added to the obvious immediate benefits derived from that (people being able to eat, clothe themselves and possibly even develop a new economy for their town or region), the longer-term strategy seems to be to improve the environment at the same time.  I think this is a terrific concept and I would like to see that grow.

It was a tough call as they are all good charities, but GCA got my vote.  Way to go, Joomla!Shack!!

This is why GCA got my vote, too. Way to go, JoomlaShack! indeed! :-)

RWANDA has been through events that should not been allowed to happen after the world had experienced prior genocides. The wounds are still fresh for the victims and their relatives who survived even though the perpetrators are being tried and sentenced...people of RWANDA need all the help to pick up their torn lives

Hi I am the president and co-founder of GCA and I just wanted to thank everyone for their votes, kind words and support.  All of the Charities are great and deserve support.  One of GCA's goals is to support small grassroots organizations in the regions where we work so it is hard for us to not want everyone to win and get the support that they deserve.  But we hope that you will continue to vote for us, tell your friends about us and get involved in our work.  We are dedicated to building, partnerships, alliances and networks to reduce poverty and protect our ecosystems.  We know that if we can do that many of our other problems, such  as violence and civil rights abuses will diminish in the world.

Thank you and happy holidays!

Indeed this is a great thing. I actually created a complete website for this kind of activity where you can vote for a charity and a pool of donations goes to the winning charity. Its a great success now. Check it out on http://www.votanate.com (built in Joomla).

Take your part!

Well done Joomlashack for a great initiative. You have inspired me to do something similar on my sites. First thing next year I will be looking for a worthwhile local charity to support.

I am African and I have met a few people from Rwanda. What happened there was an absolute travesty, of that there can be no doubt. But I must just say that of all the causes you chose, I was a little disappointed to see only one HIV/AIDS organization. HIV/AIDS has now reached pandemic proportions. AIDS is currently devastating my country and many others. I don't think it is possible to give enough to AIDS support organizations. That is why Life LA gets my vote. In fact, now I know what organization I will support on my site. One of the biggest problems currently where I live is the huge amount of AIDS orphans that need to be cared for. It is such a large group and growing daily, that my government doesn't even know where to start. So thank you Joomlashack for inspiring me to do my bit!

Project Rwanda gets my vote, from http://www.BicyclingBlogger.com .

The world turned its back on Rwanda almost 15 years ago. They still struggle to move forward. Project Rwanda is a perfect vehicle promoting the perfect vehicle - read "BIKE" - as a tool of development and symbol of hope.

Let's not turn our backs on Rwanda again. Support Project Rwanda. Vote for Project Rwanda now!

You should say clearly in the very first message of this thread, that one must be registered to vote.  Unregistered users who enter your site at

http://www.joomlashack.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=315&Itemid=4

get the impression that by clicking on "clik here to vote" they are actually voting, but they are not voting at all.  Is this your intention?  A vote is not cast by clicking on the box on the page that has the 5 charities listed, in spite of how it is presented.

I agree, the whole process is very confusing a lots of people do not get around to voting as a result.

Cherished Supporters,

For three and a half years, with your continued support, The Life Group LA has been here for our community providing much needed emotional support and our life affirming program, the POZ Life Weekend Seminar. We have been able to provide all our services free of charge so as not to exclude anyone who needs us. For this we give an abundance of thanks. It has been an honor to be of service and utilize your past donations so effectively.

As many of you know, we are a unique grassroots organization, that offers one of the most inspirational programs in Los Angeles, 4 times per year; one that is unduplicated by any other organization and one that has a gentle and ever lasting transformational affect on those who attend. People have become inspired and re-inspired and forever grateful for the gift of peace and hope you have brought them through your donations. They become empowered with the education to make informed choices about their healthcare and general well-being and go on to living long, healthy and productive lives. Many come back to volunteer and help make a difference themselves. Take distinguished pride in that YOU have been an active part in making this possible for more than 1500 people since our inception in July 2005.

Now We Need You Again!
It’s no secret that the nation’s economy has severely affected us all in many ways, and it is also no secret that we all still have the unconditional desire and passion to help make a difference in the lives of people who are less fortunate, or have life threatening illnesses. We must pledge to invest in members of our communities so they will still have access to our groundbreaking programs of education, emotional support and a community for whom to connect with.

Please help us continue to offer our valuable programs during these challenging times by gifting us with your vote for The Life Group LA.

Your donation dollars will help us continue to provide the vital services we offer, free of charge, to 100’s of people infected and affected by HIV/AIDS yearly. We have made great strides however until there is a cure, our work isn't done!

If you or someone you know has had a life affirming experience with us, then you know first hand how valuable the work continues to be and how important it is that these programs are available…. If you don’t personally know, we invite you to visit our website for an array of moving sentiments and guest book entries. We know you will “feel” the compelling messages that have been shared.

Your gift will help us continue and offer a space where empowered lives can flourish with new-found and grand possibilities.

Once again, I am filled with gratitude for your compassion, benevolence and good will. Sharing the gifts you have within yourself to give is a most treasured deed we don’t take lightly.

Most Sincerely,

Sunnie Rose
Executive Director

Just got the email announcement, this award could not go to a better organization.  It's a great place to volunteer too. (Yes, I'm part of the volunteer team)... check out what they offer at www.thethegroupla.org/volunteer

The Life Group LA gets my vote!  I went to one of their seminars with my family.  It has made the world of difference for us.  We now know our options and I am empowered to make the right decisions for myself about my treatment and how to access the medical care I need.

I am now living a positive life  Grin

The Life Group gets my support, always.

This is a great contest... I wish more businesses would support charity so that more people could be helped.

This is a great idea, but the voting process is the most convoluted and un user friendly system i have ever encountered on the web.  KIS.
