Joomlashack Suport for IE6 to End Dec 14th

Mark your calendars, it's official, Joomlashack will stop supporting Internet Explorer 6 as of December 14th, 2009.

With the coming of the new year and many Joomla template providers agreeing that support for IE6 should officially end, we've decided to make the leap a bit early.

The move to stop supporting IE6 is not limited to Joomla template developers alone, in fact it's got quite a large following from web developers as a whole. Just do a Google search for 'no more IE6' and you will be treated with a list of articles, and even whole websites, dedicated to ending the life of IE6, or at least stopping the support of it.

There are many reasons that web developers wish to stop officially supporting IE6, most noteably among them are the hacks that have to be put in place to make a site work with IE6 as it does with every other browser. Time spent trying to hash out why something doesn't work with Internet Explorer 6 as it does with every other browser has reached its threashold, and we are not going to spend any more time with it. Internet Explorer is now at version 8, and we feel there is no sound reason to keep spending time with the outdated browser.

If you are still using Internet Explorer 6, we invite you to take the leap into the 'here and now' and update to IE8. If you are not hard bound to IE, there are a number of other great browsers out there that you might want to give a try, like Firefox, Safari (my favorite browser) and the exciting new web browser from Google, Chrome (which is still in beta, but worth checking out).

*Update: Even Microsoft is now urging people to update!! .. Get with it people!
