Update Joomla 3.3.5 to 3.3.6 or 2.5.26 to 2.5.27

joomla updateEarlier this week, Joomla released security updates for both version 2.5 and 3. The new versions were 2.5.26 and 3.3.5.

Shortly after the release, a bug was found with the file installer that's used for core updates and extension installs.

This bug was found very quickly, so it will only impact people who upgraded within 24 hours to 2.5.26 and 3.3.5.

If you did update, you will need to run a second, short update to fix the problem. So, only for users on exactly 2.5.26 or 3.3.5, here's what you need to do ...

Updating Joomla 3.3.5 to 3.3.6

As always, please backup your site before updating.

If you look in the bottom-right hand corner of your Joomla 3 administrator area, you'll be able to see what version you're running. In this case, we have Joomla 3.3.5 so we need to update:

  • Go to Extensions > Extension Manager > Install from URL.
  • Enter this URL: https://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/19823/161250/Joomla_3.3.5_to_3.3.6-Stable-Patch_Package.zip
  • Click the Install button.

  • You'll get a message saying "Installing file was successful."

  • Check your site again and you should be on Joomla 3.3.6 now:

Updating Joomla 2.5.26 to 2.5.27

As always, please backup your site before updating.

If you look at the bottom of your Joomla 2.5 administrator area, you'll be able to see what version you're running. In this case, we have Joomla 2.5.26 so we need to update:

  • Go to Extensions > Extension Manager
  • Look for the "Install from URL" box:

  • Enter this URL: https://joomlacode.org/gf/download/frsrelease/19817/161197/Joomla_2.5.26_to_2.5.27-Stable-Patch_Package.zip.
  • Click the Install button.
  • You'll get a message saying "Installing file was successful."
  • Check your site again and you should be on Joomla 2.5.27 now:
