How Debuging a Sitemap Works in OSMap

Sitemaps help search engines find and index your Joomla site content. OSMap is one of the most popular Joomla sitemap extensions.

If you are having an issue with your sitemap, the "Debug" feature will help uncover problems. In this blog post, I will show you how this feature works.

In OSMap, you have two different options to debug a sitemap:

  • You can debug in the XML view.
  • You also can debug in the HTML view.

Each of these views brings different debugging information for you.

How to debug the HTML sitemap

To debug the HTML sitemap, you would need to go to your sitemap menu item.

Once you open it for editing, you want to click the "Sitemap Settings" tab:

the sitemap setting tab

Once you are on the "Sitemap Settings" tab, you will see the "Debug" parameter. To enable your OSMap sitemap debugging, you want to set this parameter to "Yes":

click yes for debug

To apply this change, click "Save" or "Save & Close".

To see this change at work, you would go to your sitemap in the frontend and check for any reported errors:

How to debug the XML sitemap

In this view, you can see the raw source code of the XML. This is useful for identifying broken syntaxes that are not transparently displayed by the browsers by default.

To enable debugging for your XML sitemap, you would want to open your XML sitemap menu item.

Just like in the previous step, you want to click the "Sitemap Settings" tab. Here you need to set the "Debug" to "Yes":

set debug to yes

To save your changes, click "Save" or "Save & Close".

Finally, you would go to your sitemap in the frontend and check for any reported errors:
