If you are experiencing problems with OSMap, please try the following steps before contacting Joomlashack Support:
- Make sure you are using the latest versions of PHP, Joomla, and OSMap.
- Verify that SSL is working correctly on every page of your site.
- Use OSMap's debugging tool. The output often helps identify the cause of the issue.
- Clear the Joomla cache and your browser cache, then test again.
- Temporarily disable third-party extensions one at a time to identify possible conflicts.
Let's take a look at the most common issues.
Pages Are Missing from My XML Sitemap
If a page is missing from your XML sitemap, check the following:
- Make sure the page is published.
- Check the Joomla Robots settings for the article, menu item, and Global Configuration.
- Make sure the appropriate OSMap plugin is enabled.
- Regenerate the sitemap after making any changes.
For more information, see the tutorial How OSMap Uses Joomla Robots Settings in XML Sitemaps.
My HTML Sitemap Looks Different from My XML Sitemap
This is expected.
The XML sitemap respects Joomla Robots settings. The HTML sitemap does not use the same checks. As a result, a page may be excluded from the XML sitemap but still appear in the HTML sitemap.
For more information, see the tutorial How OSMap Uses Joomla Robots Settings in XML Sitemaps.
Google Search Console Reports Sitemap Errors
If Google Search Console reports errors but your sitemap opens correctly in a browser:
- Verify that the sitemap is valid XML.
- Check that the URLs in the sitemap are accessible.
- Keep in mind that Search Console reports may take time to update.
The issue may not be caused by OSMap.
My Sitemap Contains Duplicate URLs
Duplicate URLs are usually caused by Joomla routing, menu items, or third-party extensions.
If you're reporting duplicate URLs to Joomlashack Support, please include:
- the URL of your sitemap
- examples of the duplicate URLs
- your Joomla version
- your OSMap version
- the name and version of any third-party extension involved
OSMap Reports a Database Error
If you encounter a database error, such as an SQL error:
- Make sure you are using the latest version of OSMap.
- Clear the Joomla cache.
- Note which sitemap and view produced the error.
- Copy the complete error message and send it to our Support team.
Large Sitemaps Fail to Generate
If your sitemap contains a very large number of URLs:
- Increase the PHP memory limit if necessary.
- Increase the PHP maximum execution time if needed.
- Consider splitting your content into multiple sitemaps.
Known Issues
