One question we get quite a bit in the Community Forum is "how do I remove or change the 'Welcome to the Frontpage' message in Joomla 1.5".

MISS Foundation Wins Joomlashack 2007 Charity Contest

In December we asked our Joomlashack community to vote for one of our five finalists in our annual Joomlashack Charity Contest, with the winner receiving a $1,000 USD cash prize. With only 10 days of voting, and during the major holiday season for many of our customers, we are impressed by both the impressive vote totals and comments posted by the voters.
It seems our winner, the MISS Foundation, did some effective outreach to involve their own members in voting. Their organizing paid off, as they ran away with the contest, taking over 58% of the vote!
The MISS Foundation certainly deserved the prize we sent them on December 31st, but we still would like everyone to check out the four other finalists, each an organization very worthy of your attention, support, and donations.
While the contest and 2007 are over, nothing's stopping you from checking them out now and giving your own charitable contribution. The children and communities these charities support still need your help, regardless of what year it is.
Thanks again to everyone who nominated, commented, voted, or promoted our 2007 charity contest. If you have an comments or suggestions for how we can make this effort even more effective next year, please let us know!

Some Joomlashack friends might have stumbled upon the fact that while our small & lean team is spread all around the U.S. (Alabama, California, Pennyslvania, and Texas), the company's "official headquarters" is here in Vermont. (By headquarters I mean two of us in the same office at the same time occasionally, a wireless network named "Joomlashack," and a P.O. Box for our mail. Our real HQ is a persistent skype chat.)
Needless to say, previous Joomla Days in the U.S. were not anywhere near Vermont, a tiny state 4,000 miles from Silicon Valley and closer to Montreal than any major American city. So when the the first East Coast Joomla Day scheduled just 300 miles away in New York, we jumped at the chance to drive to the Big Apple.

How to Reset Your Joomla Super Administrator Password

We've all done it. There's nothing to be ashamed of. Have you ever installed Joomla!, only to realize that you've forgotten your administrator password? When that happens, there is nothing you can do but re-install Joomla, right? Wrong. Here is a website with a great explanation of how to reset your super administrator password, even if you can't log in to the administrator control panel.

Creating a Full Width Wrapper

The goal here is to get a full-width page with no left or right modules showing.
First, you will need to create a menu item linking to the page to be displayed. This can be anything you want such as a gallery, wrapper, forum etc.
Next, go to the Module Manager (Modules > Site Modules).
The filter drop down is your best friend within the Module Manager. To the right you will see a "select position" drop down list.
Select the LEFT position.
A list of all modules available in the LEFT position are now displayed. Obviously the only ones of importance are the ones that are published. Starting at the top, click on a (published) module title link.
When the page loads you will see several parameters. Look to the ones at the right of the page labeled "Pages/Items". These are the menu items (or pages) which the module is to be present in its respected position, in this case LEFT. Use your control or cmd (mac) or cntrl (pc) key to select or deselect multiple items. You can also use the shift key to select multiple items in a row. The menu item you created to be full width should NOT be selected because you don't want this or any other module in the left column.
Make your way down the list in your Module Manager through all the LEFT positioned modules with the above method and do the same for the RIGHT position.

Who is using Joomla? Does our survey tell us?
In April and May of 2007, Joomlashack conducted the first ever major survey of Joomla Users. Over 3,600 people filled out 31 questions ranging from how many Joomla sites they managed to what Joomla tasks they do most often.
The Joomla survey results confirmed many things about this powerful open source CMS, and also had a few surprises. Here are the results with some Joomlashack editorial observations!
