Both of our students were asking how they can upload documents and link to them from articles. We have already recommended one way to handle documents for people using the JCE Editor.
This week we're going to recommend an extension called OSDownloads Free.
How do I get started with building Joomla extensions?
That's a common question we get from people who join OSTraining for the first time. They want to know about the skills they will need, and what kind of classes they should take.
Here's an overview of everything you need to get started with Joomla development.
If so, you have a lot of choices available. There are over 160 extensions listed in the "Calendars & Events" directory on Joomla.org.
So, if you want a powerful calendar to show on your Joomla site, you'll need to choose from one of these extensions. Here's our ranking of the 5 best Joomla calendar and events extensions. We tested dozens of these extensions and compared their pros and cons.
There is one extension that we install on every single Joomla site build: Joomla Content Editor.
JCE has been around since 2006 and has been outstanding since it's launch.
It makes everything easier when you're writing Joomla articles: linking, formatting, adding images, spell-checking, create tables and much more.
It's built by Ryan Demmer at http://JoomlaContentEditor.net.
So, it made sense for us to sit down and write the Ultimate JCE Guide. I used JCE of course.
Are you looking to add Joomla forms to your site?
It is possible to use the Joomla core, and we explain how to do that in this tutorial: How to Create a Joomla Contact Form.
However, there are some limitations to using the "Contacts" component in the Joomla core. The default component doesn't have many features and doesn't save your submissions.
So, if you want a powerful contact form on your Joomla site, you'll need to look for a new extension. Here's our ranking of the 5 best Joomla forms extensions. We tested dozens of these extensions and compared their pros and cons.
One question we frequently get is about the Joomla contact form. Some people think its too plain and want to redesign it or add features. Some people get too much spam.
This week we'll walk you through how to improve your Joomla contact form.
If you want to use the Joomla core, check out this guide: how to create Joomla contact forms.
But there are some serious limitations to the Joomla core. For example, you can't even store messages that are sent to you. So we highly recommend the Shack Forms extension for better Joomal contact forms.
This tutorial will show you how to add a contact form to the front of your Joomla site.
This will allow people to contact you quickly without having to navigate through to a dedicated "Contact Us" page.
Our favorite Joomla forms extension is Shack Forms.
It has a ton of cool features that you won't find in many other Joomla forms. For example, you can store your entries in Google Sheets. Once your data is inside a Google sheet you can analyze, share or use the information in thousands of different ways.
Let's show you how to send your Joomla forms data to Google Sheets.
This tutorial will show you how to create a Joomla contact form.
We're going to show you two different approaches:
- Using the default Contacts components, so you can create a Joomla contact form without installing any extra extensions.
- Using the powerful Shack Forms extension, so you can take advantage of extra features for your Joomla contact form.
Google's Sheets product is their version of Microsoft Excel.
It's a powerful tool, and one that is suprisingly easy to use with Joomla. I'm going to show you how to embed Google Sheets into your Joomla site with just a URL.
You can also send Joomla forms results directly to Google Sheets.
